Education

No library in the world has any section on a credible body of Amish literature.

We will deconstruct the 1971 Supreme Court case WI vs. Yoder, which directly created an embrace of ignorance and a poverty of literature among our Amish people, and in the process, ran roughshod over our legal rights as Amish children and subsequent adults.

C

Female-Driven Entrepreneurship

Peter Buffet says that he, like his father Warren, invests in undervalued assets. For Peter, those assets are women and girls. We agree.

Female entrepreneurs can create new jobs for themselves, as well as others, and effectively disrupt our male-dominated economy and male-driven agendas.

Health + Wellness

We Amish “immigrants” experience traumatic losses when we leave or escape the Church. This results in debilitating isolation, PTSD, depression, suicide, and other mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health problems.

Many of those inside the Church suffer much the same.

Apply for The Amish Descendant Scholarship Fund

The Amish Descendant Scholarship Fund (ADSF) was founded by Amish escapee Emma Miller to provide financial assistance and support to those coming from an Amish upbringing who have decided to pursue a higher education. Since the Amish only study to the 8th grade, it’s challenging for those who leave the community to resume their studies and we hope to offer a helping hand along the way.

NOTE: ADSF is separate from AHF and the “Apply” link will take you to ADSF’s site. If you are eligible for a scholarship but have questions about the process (or going to college in general), please send a note to Torah via the Contact page. She would love to share her experiences and help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.

Education

We are a perilously disadvantaged minority group in the USA and Canada with no scientific and technological skills, no emotional and social intelligence, and no higher education. At best, we’ve received a rudimentary Amish 8th grade-only education. We speak English as a second language; our native tongue is Amish.

PROBLEM: Our heritage and culture is at risk of becoming extinct. We are routinely exploited by the media and non-Amish self-proclaimed, so-called experts on the Amish who neither speak our language nor have any interest in making a positive contribution to our people. No library in the world even has any section on a credible body of Amish literature.

SOLUTION: To deconstruct the 1971 Supreme Court case WI vs. Yoder, which directly created an embrace of ignorance and a poverty of literature among our Amish people, and in the process, ran roughshod over our legal rights as Amish children and subsequent adults.

We will create a body of work that represents us Amish and, along with that, we will address the problems that speaking English as a second language poses.

We will also critically examine the fundamentalist Christianity influence on Amish issues and escapees.

Female-Driven Entrepreneurship

Peter Buffet says that he, like his father Warren, invests in undervalued assets. For Peter, those assets are women and girls. We agree. In the MeToo age, women are finally standing up in every sector of society. However . . . .

PROBLEM: For the entire length of our 300+ years of history, there hasn’t been a single female in a leadership position among our Amish people, neither inside nor outside the Church.

SOLUTION: To teach Amish women and girls entrepreneurship, money management, and financial literacy, which ensures their financial future. Economic empowerment facilitates gender equality, poverty eradication, and mitigated abuses of power.

Female entrepreneurs can create new jobs for themselves, as well as others, and effectively disrupt our male-dominated economy and male-driven agendas.

We will teach women and girls the skills to identify opportunities, negotiate agreements, raise capital, collaborate cross-culturally on a local, national, and global level, and leverage themselves into leadership seats at the world table.

The solutions we’re implementing to establish a new generation of Amish leaders can serve as a model for handling sexual violence and empowering female economic independence––which will usher in a 21st century era of global peace and compassion.

Health + Wellness

The traumatic losses that we Amish “immigrants” experience when we leave or escape the Church (e.g., the loss of family, friends, job, language, culture, a sense of belonging, etc.) result in debilitating isolation, depression, suicide, and other mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health problems.

PROBLEM: We are routinely manipulated and taken advantage of because of our lack of resources and knowledge, ostracism from the Amish Church, neglect from mainstream society, and a stripped sense of self-worth.

SOLUTION: To connect our population with compassionate, empathetic, and nonjudgmental mental health professionals, self-empowerment coaches, mentors, sex education programs, self-care practices, alternative therapies, complementary medicine, and cutting-edge research.

We will also educate our people on the efficacy of ketamine infusions to fix the neurons in our mood centers. Most of us suffer from PTSD and depression because of stunted mood center development sustained by early childhood traumas.

These are services we will offer to all low-income members, whether inside or outside the Church.
